Have you ever thought about using your skills to help create a better future for people left vulnerable by HIV/AIDS in South Africa or orphaned street children in Haiti? What about becoming a full-time volunteer here in Ireland?

Since 1960, Viatores Christi (Catholic lay missionary development workers), has aimed to respond to needs such as these by giving people an opportunity to share their lives and skills with those in need all over Africa, South America, Asia, parts of Europe and here in Ireland.

People from all backgrounds and professions join Viatores Christi – people who want to challenge themselves to make a difference in the world, however big or small.

Viatores Christi lay missionary development workers are assigned to projects which deal with a range of social and justice issues throughout the world including AIDS/HIV projects, displaced peoples, healthcare, intellectual disability, education and indigenous peoples.

For those interested in becoming a lay missionary development worker, Viatores Christi offers a six-month pre-departure training programme which is held over one weekend per month over six months and covers:

- Challenge, Commitment & Conflict
- Cultural Adaptation
- Health
- Global Awareness
- Home Mission
