A two-day workshop for people interested in volunteering overseas in a developing country.
This workshop provides a chance for those thinking of volunteering overseas or working for global development to meet with others and consider the options available. The sessions will explore:
• An overview of development and underdevelopment
• The role of the development worker in the context of development aid
• Types of development and aid agencies
• Motivations for going overseas
• Solidarity work from Ireland
The course will be facilitated by a group of returned development workers. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to meet with returned volunteers and development workers. The workshop is participatory and is designed to explore the issues in a way that will encourage action on development issues from a justice and equality perspective.
Date: 10th October 2009, 10am to 4:30pm (Saturday), 11th October 10am – 1:30pm (Sunday)
Venue: Irish Aid Centre, O'Connell Street
Cost: €35.00 (members) / €60.00 (non-members), €25 (students and unwaged), including lunch
