Intern  Development Education & Campaigns

Starting August/September for 6 months

Are you passionate about communicating the causes of global injustice?

Comhlámh is a dynamic, membership organisation committed to critical engagement on worldwide development. Through awareness raising, research, education and training we empower individuals to take effective action for addressing global injustice.

Our mission is to challenge our society on the root causes of global poverty and inequality and empower people to demand equity in global relations. Ours is the belief that people acting in solidarity can change the structures of global injustice and poverty. As the Irish Association of Development Workers we protect the interests of people working in development and for human rights. Our work is informed by their experiences.

Summary: The Intern plays a crucial supportive role within Comhlámh’s Development Education and Campaigns Team. While supporting different members of staff in their work, the organisation of a conference in November will be a major part of the role.

Main tasks:

  • Assisting the implementation of an activist conference in November 2008 in Dublin, in conjunction with other NGOs
  • Assisting the set up of an Activist Website, in conjunction with other NGOs
  • Support in the implementation of a range of training courses related to the team
  • Support in the production of the Development Education Team’s magazines and education resources
  • Support in the development of a new campaign (research, admin, creative input, etc.)
  • Administrative support in the Development Education & Campaigns Team
  • Such other tasks as may be negotiated with Comhlámh.

  • Stipend of 800 Euro per month

Our expectations:

  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for Comhlámh’s vision, mission and strategy
  • Interest in global development and the ability to think critically
  • Knowledge of global development issues/international politics
  • Motivation to communicate global issues creatively
  • Ideally you have been involved in organising events, the production of materials and facilitation of groups and engaged in campaigns
  • Organisational skills, ability to work on own initiative and to prioritise

Commitment: This post will be for up to 35 hours per week. The Internship will run from August/September 2008 – February/March 2009, but a shorter time period may be considered.
