Camara is a volunteer organisation dedicated to educating communities in Africa through the usage of computer hardware and software training programs.
Technology. Empowering Education.
Each year a group of Camara volunteers travel to the computer labs and hubs that Camara have set up in a growing number of African countries, to teach advanced ICT (Information Communication Technology) skills.
In July and August 2010 Camara will be sending volunteers to teach in our EDU-Labs and schools across Kenya, Lesotho, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zambia. Volunteers will teach courses in PC maintenance, networking, web design, how to teach ICT, pedagogy of ICT, software applications and introduce Moodle administration (a virtual learning environment) over a four week period.
Pre-departure volunteers:
- complete 50 hours technical and teacher training at the Camara workshop
- attend a 2 day pre-orientation weekend at DTALK
- raise €2500 / £2250
Volunteering abroad with Camara is a great opportunity to share and pass on some of your own skills. It also gives you that chance to get involved with a local community in Africa.
“If you feel that you’d enjoy passing on your technical skills in an environment which demands your flexibility, you will have a richly rewarding, once in a lifetime experience.” (09 Volunteer)
