Who should apply?
Internships with United Nations agencies in developing countries
We want to hear from candidates with:
• A proven strong interest in development work, demonstrated by specialised studies and/or field experience
• A strong interest in making a career in international development
• A track record of volunteering, community service or similar commitment to others
• Some experience of living in a developing country – e.g. short term volunteering
• Experience of travelling and living away from home
• A post-graduate degree, or equivalent professional qualification
• At least some work experience
• Good office and organisational skills – e.g. project management and administration
• Good spoken and written communication skills
• The ability to carry out research and write reports
• EU citizenship [or a declaration of refugee status from the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform in Dublin]
• Fluency in English. Knowledge of other official languages of the UN (French, Spanish) will be an asset
• Robust mental and physical health
Selection process
Initial interviews will be held in the office of Irish Aid in Bishop’s Square in Dublin in the second week of October. Final interviews will take place before the end of October.
For each position with a UN agency, Irish Aid will nominate candidates and the agency and its Country Manager will make the final selection in November. Successful applicants will be notified in early December. Final appointments will be subject to satisfactory reference checks and medical examination.

- September 28 - Deadline for receipt of applications
- October 8 - 12 - First round interviews
- October 22 -26 - Final round interviews
- December - Selected candidates offered positions & deadline for offer for acceptance of placements
- January 14-18 (TBC) Pre Departure Training Irish Aid
- 21-22 January 2008 - Briefings in UNV HQ in Bonn
- Late January/early February - Departures

Interested candidates should send a completed application form and a letter of application by email to unvintern@dfa.ie by 5pm Friday 28 September. The application form is available on the Irish Aid Website.
There is no need to send a hard copy of your application.
