APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE AT THE WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT CENTRE (WEC) IN BATIBO.

Position: Technical Adviser at Women’s Empowerment Centre, Batibo

Serving Location:Batibo

Start Date: Immediately

Duration: Minimum 6 months

Description

The Women’s Empowerment Centre (WEC) is an initiative of the Moghamo Women Cultural and Development Association (MOWOCUDA) in its endeavors to enhance the Socio-economic advancement of the rural Women. The WEC has been operational since 2005 in the following areas; agriculture and livelihoods, adult literacy, health education, women’s rights, peace building etc.

Responsibilities

  • The volunteer will serve as Technical Adviser/fundraiser for the Women’s EmpowermentCentre inBatibo
  • Assist in the strategic development and implementation of a long term and sustainable Women’s Empowerment Programme.
  • Build relationships/linkages between WEC and other related organizations.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with partners, and help undertake negotiations related to securing funding, programming contracts and reports
  • Strengthen the institutional and organizational capacities of WEC.

  • Have zeal to work in very challenging circumstances.
  • Have a high level of motivation and perseverance to achieve objectives.
  • Experience of programme development, management and participatory planning approaches.
  • Report writing skills
  • Have educational background in a gender or development related discipline.
  • Ability to raise funds to support his/her cost of traveling and living in Batibo, which is estimated at approximately $250 per month.  However MOWOCUDA will assist in providing the volunteer with an accommodation or arrange a home stay.

About Batibo

Batibo Subdivision is the economic headquarters of Momo Division in the North West Province of Cameroon Batibo town, which is the capital of the Subdivision, is located 40km from Bamenda (capital city of the North West Province of Cameroon) on tarred road.  Batibo has piped borne water and electricity.  The cultural background of the people and beautiful natural scenery contributes to giving Batibo a strong touristic attraction not to forget its lovely and welcoming population.  The mild climate (not too hot-not too cold) of Batibo makes it an ideal place to visit/live in the North WestProvince.

Position: Advisor in Health Unit, Women’s Empowerment Centre, Batibo

Serving Location:Batibo

Start Date: Immediately

Duration: Minimum 6 months

Responsibilities

  • The volunteer(s) will serve as Advisor for the Health Unit of the Women’s Empowerment Centre in Batibo
  • Assist in the organization and programming of activities at the Health Unit.
  • Provide advisory services on a variety of health issues; reproductive health, HIV/AIDS counseling, tropical diseases, nutrition, child care, preventive healthcare etc.
  • Organize open seminars/workshops on specific health issues
  • Build relationships/linkages between WEC and other related organizations
  • Assist the local staff in developing project proposals and source funding.

Position: Trainer; Adult Literacy, Women’s Empowerment Centre, Batibo

Serving Location: Batibo

Description

The level of illiteracy amongst women in Batibo Sub Division is very high, the aim of the Adult Literacy Programme of the Women’s Empowerment Centre, is to provide women (who never had the opportunity to go to school) with basic reading and writing skills

Responsibilities

  • The volunteer(s) will serve as Trainer in Adult Literacy at the Women’s Empowerment Centre in     Batibo
  • Assist in the current efforts of developing and implementing a syllabus for adult literacy
  • Undertake effective training
  • Build relationships/linkages between WEC and other related organizations.

Description

The vocational Training Unit of the Women’s Empowerment Centre (WEC) in Batibo, has as primary objective to empower women with technical and business management skills to undertake their own income generating activities. This Unit covers the following areas; agriculture and livestock, cookery and catering, Internal Decoration and Embroidery, Sewing and Tailoring, and Sectary ship.

Responsibilities

  • The Curriculum Development Officer, will assist current efforts in designing and implementing a vocational training curriculum at the WEC
  • Organize and program the activities of the Vocational Training Unit
  • Build relationships/linkages between WEC and other related organizations.
  • Organize trainings for trainers on matters of pedagogy.

Description

The Women’s Empowerment Centre (WEC) is an initiative of the Moghamo Women Cultural and Development Association (MOWOCUDA) in its endeavors to enhance the Socio-economic advancement of the rural Women.   • The volunteer(s) will serve as Head of Unit; Resource Centre of the Women’s Empowerment Centre in Batibo
  • Institute a management policy for the Resource Centre
  • Assist in the organization and programming of activities at the Resource Centre.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the Resource Centre.
  • Train local women to manage the Resource Centre.
  • Assist in the organization of seminars/workshops.
  • Build relationships/linkages between WEC and other related organizations.

Position: ADVISOR in Demonstration Farm Unit, Women’s Empowerment Centre, Batibo

Description

The Demonstration Farm Unit of the Women’s Empowerment Centre has as its main goal to improve on crop / animal production and productivity through demonstrations, trials and adoption of sound agricultural / livestock / fisheries and apicultural practices  and  techniques.  This unit is of prime importance because agriculture is the main occupation of the Moghamo Woman.  However poor yield is a cause for concern.  Many factors account for the poor yields:  ignorance, poor soil fertility, disease, pests, post harvest food losses, lack of access to credit facilities, etc.

Responsibilities

  • The volunteer(s) will serve as Advisor to the Demonstration Farm Unit
  • Assist the local agricultural technician to plan and organize demonstration sessions
  • Undertake participatory trials and demonstrations in ecological agriculture, and permanent farming systems, seed multiplication, post harvest technology etc
  • Organize open seminars/workshops in specific agricultural issues
  • Provide advisory and extension services to women groups on crop/animal production, agro forestry, apiculture, fish farming, post harvest technology, etc..
  • Assist women groups to design small scale projects and source funding
  • Build linkages and relationships between WEC and other related organizations.
