A one-day workshop for people interested in volunteering overseas in a developing country.

This workshop run by Comhlámh and hosted by the Waterford One World Centre provides a chance for those thinking of volunteering overseas or working for global development to meet with others and consider the options available. The sessions will explore:

• An overview of development and underdevelopment
• The role of the volunteer in the context of development aid
• Types of development and aid agencies
• Motivations for going overseas
• Solidarity work from Ireland

Comhlamh will have a stand at the Irish Aid Volunteer Fair in Limerick from 11am-4pm on February 18th.  Come out and learn more about volunteering in developing countries.

Camara Education is currently recruiting volunteers for four and five week assingments in East Africa, departing early or late July (depending on assignments).  They are lookin for enthusiastic people with a background in either Teaching/Lecturing/Training or Computing.  All training is provided in Dublin, mostly on Saturdays.  You will be part of a team of 5 to 8 individuals, and working closely with their team of local partners.  Gain a unique insight into African life. For full details, please contact Frank, T 01 652 2668, E frank@camara.ie

A-Z Childrens Charity is looking for volunteers who can offer three weeks in July or August to put their energy and skills to good use in Uganda. Come along to this event to find out more about volunteering with A-Z Childrens Charity.  Meet our staff and talk to former volunteers about their experiences.

The Programme provides an opportunity to experience life in rural Kenya. Anyone over 18 years on 1/1/11 who is willing to learn and be a team player can apply. The work is based on the needs of the local people and the projects are focused on healthcare, education and clean water. Training will be provided.

At this evening talk VSO will explain the application process, the countries they work in, and also the professionals they are looking to recruit.

There will also be a returned volunteer present to give a brief presentation about their experience overseas. The event is free but advance registration is required.

Comhlámh seeks Project Officer to work on the Engaging Global Volunteers to Action Project. This new 3 year EU funded project, complements the work of Comhlámh’s Volunteering Options & Development Worker’s (VODW) Programme and Development Education (DE) Programme. The project’s objective is to empower returned EU global volunteers in Ireland, Germany and Poland to act as development education multipliers in awareness raising and action in support of the Millennium Development Goals. The project involves direct work with volunteers as well as capacity building of sending organisations and relationship building with strategic networks to achieve this aim. The Project Officer will be based in Comhlámh’s Dublin office and will report to the Programme Manager of the Volunteering Options and Development Workers (VODW) Programme. The main role of the Project Officer will be to support organisations in implementing Comhlámh’s Code of Good Practice for Volunteer Sending Organisations. The post will also involve working as part of a team and feeding into the work of the VODW Programme and Comhlámh in the implementation of our strategic and operational plans.
