Applications invited for UNV Internship Scheme 2011: Irish Aid is supporting up to 15 internship positions under the UNV internship scheme for 2011. These 12 month positions with UN agencies will be based mostly in Irish Aid Programme Countries and will be in the following areas: education, gender, environment, health, HIV and AIDS, water and sanitation, governance, communications, planning, food security and rural development. The internships are aimed at individuals with a post-graduate qualification and 1-2 years work experience.

A one-day workshop for people interested in volunteering overseas in a developing country.

This workshop provides a chance for those thinking of working for global development to meet with others and consider the options available. The sessions on the weekend will explore development and underdevelopment, the role of the development worker in the context of development aid, types of development and aid agencies, motivations for going overseas, and solidarity work from Ireland.

The course will be facilitated by a group of returned development workers. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to meet with returned volunteers and development workers. The workshop is participatory and is designed to explore the issues in a way that will encourage action on development issues from a justice and equality perspective.
