Celebration of International Volunteer Day

5 December, 2 pm, Irish Aid Volunteering and Information Centre, Upper O’Connell Street, Dublin 2. 

The event, organised by Comhlámh in association with Volunteer Centres Ireland, will celebrate the valuable contribution volunteers have made globally to economic and social development.  Come join us for music and food and hear leading figures share their thoughts on volunteering.  Justin Kilcullen, Trócaire, will talk about the role of volunteering from an international perspective, while Dr Yvonne McKenna, Volunteer Centres Ireland, will address the local perspective.  Please note this event is generously supported by Irish Aid and that participation is free. Camara is a volunteer organisation dedicated to educating communities in Africa through the usage of computer hardware and software training programs. Technology. Empowering Education.

What they do They  take in used computers from Irish companies and individuals. They securely wipe the hard drives of each computer concurrent with the standards of the United States Department of Defense. They refurbish these used computers with the relevant hardware and software and ship them to schools and colleges in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Friends of Londiani (FOL) is seeking volunteers to work on Harambee Projects in Kenya for 2-3 week periods during the Summer and Autumn of 2010: Group 1: 17 July – 1 August; Group 2: 17 July – 8 August; Group 3: 30 October – 14 November; Group 4: 30 October – 21 November. Groups will vary between 20-25 people for each project.  Volunteers must be willing to learn the necessary skills as no prerequisite knowledge or experience is required. Applicants must be over 18 years of age on 1 January 2010, must complete the application for and be available for interview between 2-12 November in the evening.
