Comhlámh Facilitators Training: 5 December (Part One), Dublin. 

Do you have experience working overseas as a Development Worker or Volunteer? - Are you are an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated individual interested in supporting and inspiring other Returned Volunteers and Development Workers on their return to Ireland?.  If the answer is yes, then this 2-part Irish Aid sponsored facilitators’ training might just be the thing for you!

International Service Ireland (ISI) is looking for an Institutional Capacity Builder for our local partner in Bolivia, the Bolivian Institute for the Blind (IBC) as part of our project, ‘Towards the Social Inclusion of Disabled People’.  The role will be one of guidance in various aspects of institutional strengthening; developing more effective tools for planning, implementing and evaluating activities. The successful candidate will be delivering workshops on specific themes, depending on their capacity and specialty. The Department of Foreign Affairs now wishes to offer a number of work experience Junior Professional Internships (JPIs) with Irish Aid, to highly motivated individuals with an interest in the field of development cooperation and a desire to work in this area both in Ireland and overseas. The Irish Aid JPIs will be based initially either at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Limerick (and possibly later in the field) and will have a unique opportunity to work closely with, and learn from, the staff of the Government’s aid programme.

The Global Teachers Programme is a programme for experienced school principals and teachers, centred around a five-week placement in a school in Uganda, which helps teachers to become better development educators and develops their leadership, management and training skills.

Comhlámh is conducting some research looking at the barriers to continuous engagement in development issues, experienced by returned volunteers and development workers. We really want to hear first-hand from you to see if you still involved in development issues, and if not, what could be done to encourage this.

Suas Educational Development are Looking for Volunteers and Team Leaders to work with their Partner Schools in India or Kenya for 10 weeks next summer.

On 7-8 November Comhlámh, in alliance with the Africa Centre, Debt and Development Coalition and Latin America Solidarity Centre, host a conference on movement building and global solidarity. We will have a series of exciting events taking place over the weekend including workshops, panel discussions with activist speakers from the Global South and Ireland, music and much more! Hear words of inspiration on movement building from internationally renowned activists- Oscar Olivera from Bolivia, Njoki Njehu from Kenya.

This workshop provides a chance for those thinking of working for global development to meet with others and consider the options available.  The sessions on the weekend will explore development and underdevelopment, the role of the development worker in the context of development aid, types of development and aid agencies, motivations for going overseas, and solidarity work from Ireland.

Comhlámh are currently revising the Volunteer Charter and would love to hear from returned volunteers about how useful they found it. We are running some focus groups in the next few weeks in the new Comhlámh offices.
