VSI is now taking applications for its 2010 Development Education Volunteer Programme to Africa, Asia and Latin America. The two month programme enables people to gain an insight and understanding of different development issues facing people and countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America by participating in voluntary work projects, of practical benefit to local communities.


The Projects are organised by local voluntary work organisations and involve teams of local and international volunteers helping:

· to build extra classrooms onto a local school

· to renovate a rural health centre

· to plant trees and other environmental projects

· to make play facilities at a centre for disabled children



Projects take place in the following countries;-

Africa: Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Asia: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam

Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru.



VSI organise a comprehensive Preparation and Orientation programme for all volunteers and our next workshop will take place on March 27/28 in Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
